Our Story at Arbour Landscape Solutions

Arbour Landscape Solutions is the brainchild of Richard and Gaby Bickler and was born out of the need to diversify their business after Richard injured his back.

In 1996, a very young Richard Bickler set up his own landscaping business. As a child, he was never one to sit behind a desk and spent most of his free time either playing sport or developing his family’s garden. With Mum working as a garden designer, landscaping naturally his first choice of career.

Richard’s business, Arbour Design and Build enjoyed a quarter of a century of success. He soon built a reputation for quality workmanship combined with great customer relationships. Through word of mouth, his Company grew and developed until he was regularly completing imaginative and valuable gardens for some of the most prestigious properties in Hertfordshire.

Then disaster struck. Years of working on the tools had taken their toll on Richard’s spine and although he still loved building gardens, pain restricted the type of work he could do on site.

In 2017, Landscaping Guru, Alan Sargent suggested that Richard change his modus operandi and use his 25 years of experience to benefit others in a different way. Richard became a member of the PGCA (Professional Garden Consultants Association) as a landscaping materials specialist.

To this day, Richard is still a PGCA member. He can indeed offer consultancy services for garden designers, landscapers and self builders who need help sourcing and specifying paving and walling supplies.

Arbour Landscape Solutions appeared soon after Richard closed his landscaping business for good. His consultancy work developed into the creation of landscape supplies portal from where garden designers, self builders and landscapers can choose, price and order a full range of materials online.

Very soon after the inception of Arbour Landscape Solutions, Angela Lambert and Debs Addison joined the team to help run the website and organise deliveries. From the very outset, customer service has been exemplary and continues to be one of the company’s most important USP.

The website, built by Upshot Media offers a unique quoting system which allows visitors to create, store and edit materials lists in order to speed up quoting. The site also has a facility for registered account holders to upload their materials list for a member of the Arbour Landscape Solutions team to do all of the pricing on their behalf.

As the company grew busier, Anna Roochove stepped in to help develop the brand image. She oversaw the creation of a new logo and helped re-design the website in order to accommodate the ever increasing range of landscaping products.

In 2023, Richard and Gaby invested in some yard space in Leighton Buzzard. Thus allowing Arbour Landscape Solutions to source and store unique products for delivery to customers all over the UK. A click and collect service gives project managers speedy access to a select range of hard landscaping products whilst saving on haulage costs.

Also in 2023, a new team member, Lee-Ann Maritz joined the happy bunch to support Richard with sales and customer service.
