Carpinus betulus is more widely known as Common Hornbeam. The grey-green bark and its fluted trunk make this tree definitely stand out. Vivid glossy green foliage cover the top in a rounded shape. The foliage turns to a deep yellow in Autumn. The hornbeam has many uses, if pruned correctly the yellow-brown leaves with stay continuously through Autumn and Winter making it perfect for screening purposes. Being reliable and tough the hornbeam will thrive in any shaded area, it can can grow 12 meters plus in about 20 years if given the space.
