Cornus sanguinea is best known as Common dogwood. Mainly used for it vivid colours in the Winter months. Dogwood is a large, colorful and versatile shrub. Dogwood has a all year round interest, in the Spring green foliage on red sprigs, into the summer months beautiful tiny white flowers appear tuning into black berries in autumn. As the Winter months creep in the green foliage fall and the stems turn a vivid red colour. The flowers and berries are a good attraction for many birds and pollen seeking insects. Would be used well in hedging or in any damp woodland conditions.
