A Small Suffolk Garden Oasis

The clients had retired here to be near their family from an older property with a larger established garden. While the location was perfect, they were despairing that anything could be done with the garden. It was completely covered in old sandstone paving, the aforementioned garage, and no plants. It also had odd boundaries, lending the space a triangular shape.
They wanted to create a space that would be a peaceful retreat for them both, full of plants and wildlife, as well as somewhere to entertain their large extended family.

The main challenges were fitting in everything the clients required without it feeling crowded, taking the emphasis off the odd shape, and dealing with soil which had been heavily compacted from years of hard landscaping.

The garden is still very new but already feels like an oasis. Even in such a compact space we managed to create distinct zones surrounded by ample planting areas including two trees. The garden is constantly buzzing with wildlife and my clients told me it has brought nature and calm back into their lives and been fantastic for their wellbeing.
The little touches are always so important, but even more so in a compact space. I was delighted to be able to source a drain channel that blended with the tones of the other materials in the garden and it really helped to bring everything together.
