Sustainability Policy for Arbour Landscape Solutions June 2025

Purpose:

At Arbour Landscape Solutions we are committed to sustainability in all aspects of our business operations. We recognize the importance of reducing our environmental footprint, promoting responsible sourcing, and creating a circular supply chain for our landscape materials. This policy outlines our approach to sustainability, specifically in the context of utilizing pallet networks for material distribution.

1. Sustainable Sourcing of Materials
We source our materials from sustainable and ethical suppliers. Our sourcing practices include:
  • Partnering with Certified Suppliers: All suppliers must adhere to local and international environmental regulations, and prioritize the use of renewable resources and eco-friendly practices.
  • Minimizing Waste: We prioritize the procurement of materials that minimize environmental impact, such as recycled materials, reclaimed wood for pallets, recycled plastic for wrapping of our stone during transport and locally sourced products to reduce transportation emissions.
  • Supporting Sustainable Land Management: We encourage the responsible management of natural resources by supporting suppliers who engage in regenerative agriculture, responsible forestry, and conservation efforts.
  • Materials from outside of the UK: We visit and assess our suppliers working outside of the UK to assess their sustainability practices and implement health and safety standards to benefit working practices.

2. Efficient Use of Pallet Networks
Our use of pallet networks ensures the efficient and environmentally responsible transportation of landscaping materials. The following initiatives support our commitment to sustainability:
  • Maximizing Pallet Reuse: We will actively participate in pallet pooling and ensure that all pallets used in our supply chain are reused multiple times, reducing the need for new pallets and minimizing waste.
  • Returnable Pallet Systems: Where feasible, we will implement a closed-loop system in which pallets are returned, refurbished, and reused. This reduces the production of single-use pallets and extends their lifecycle.
  • Optimizing Transport Loads: We optimize pallet loads to ensure full truck utilization, which helps reduce the carbon footprint of each delivery by decreasing the number of trips needed.
  • Collaborating with Pallet Networks: We work with responsible pallet providers who align with our sustainability goals, ensuring their pallets meet industry standards for durability and recyclability.

3. Reducing Carbon Footprint and Energy Consumption
We strive to reduce the environmental impact of our operations, including energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste generation. Specific actions include:
  • Energy-Efficient Operations: We are committed to using energy-efficient equipment and processes across our operations, from material handling to transport.
  • Electric and Low-Emission Vehicles: We will explore the use of electric or low-emission vehicles for deliveries within feasible regions, reducing our overall carbon emissions.
  • Optimizing Supply Chain Logistics: We work with logistics partners to optimize our supply chain routes and reduce empty miles, ensuring that products are delivered in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Flexible Smart Home working for our team:  Our office at our yard and showroom is small and efficient.  Our team work from home offices minimising carbon emissions created through unnecessary travel. We meet via ‘teams’ or Zoom to connect.

4. Waste Management and Recycling
We are committed to reducing, reusing, and recycling the waste generated by our business activities, including packaging materials, product waste, and broken pallets. Our goals include:
  • Pallet Recycling: Any broken or unusable pallets will be refurbished or recycled through our pallet network partners, minimizing landfill waste.
  • Recyclable Packaging: We strive to use packaging that is either recyclable or biodegradable and reduce the use of plastic in packaging materials for landscape supplies.
  • Product Waste Reduction: We will work to minimize material waste through better inventory management, accurate order fulfilment, and offering bulk options to customers to reduce the need for smaller, packaged products.

5. Community Engagement and Education
We believe in creating positive environmental and social impacts beyond our operations. Our community-focused sustainability initiatives include:
  • Educating Customers: We provide guidance on how customers can implement sustainable practices in their landscape projects, such as using native plants, water-efficient irrigation, and sustainable hardscaping materials.
  • Supporting Garden based charities: We support Greenfingers Charity who build hospice gardens for children.  We donate materials and support this charity to create green havens for the children and their families.
  • Transparency: We maintain transparency about our sustainability efforts and share annual reports detailing our progress towards sustainability goals with stakeholders.

6. Monitoring, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continuous improvement and regularly monitor our environmental impact to ensure we meet our sustainability goals. We will:
  • Measure Progress: Track key sustainability metrics such as carbon emissions, energy consumption, pallet reuse rates, and waste diversion percentages.
  • Annual Sustainability Review: Conduct an annual review of our sustainability practices to identify areas for improvement, and set new targets for the following year.
  • Stakeholder Involvement: Involve employees, suppliers, and customers in our sustainability initiatives to ensure that all stakeholders contribute to and benefit from our efforts.

7. Compliance and Commitment to Standards
We comply with all relevant local, national, and international environmental regulations, and we continually work towards exceeding these standards where possible. Our commitment includes:
  • Adherence to Industry Standards: We follow established industry practices for sustainability and aim to achieve certifications such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) or any other relevant certifications.
  • Legal Compliance: We comply with all laws and regulations governing waste management, carbon emissions, product labelling, and environmental sustainability.

Conclusion:
At Arbour Landscape Solutions sustainability is not just a policy, but a core value that guides our business operations. By using pallet networks efficiently, sourcing materials responsibly, and reducing our environmental footprint, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable future for the landscape materials industry and beyond.
