Meet Daniel March, The Young Garden Designer

Daniel Has Mastered The Element Of Surprise

Daniel March (Dan) exploded onto the garden design scene in 2025, when his garden "The Garden Of Two Tales" picked up not one, but two awards at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. Being voted people's choice, best garden of curiosity, and collecting a gold medal from the judges has quite rightly afforded him numerous mentions in the press and media.

Arbour Landscape Solutions were proud to have supplied landscaping materials to the Hampton Court garden and so Anna caught up with Daniel to find out more about the man behind the designs.

Q: What inspired you to become a garden designer?

A: As the youngest in the family, I developed a love for being outside in the garden, pottering around my grandparents place and editing things in the garden to improve them. Which has now turned into the joy of being able to create spaces that are not just functional but are places of which clients love to be in.

Q: How long have you been in practice?

A: I graduated as an Landscape Architect 2 years ago from the University of Gloucestershire, but have been within the industry working alongside garden designers on both hard and soft landscaping projects for the last 5 / 6 years.

Q: Where did you train?

A: Horticulture at Writtle College

BA (Hons) in Landscape Architecture at University of Gloucestershire.

Q: Which award winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens inspire you?

A: Tom Hoblyn’s - The Dubai Majlis Garden 2019, because it was the first time I had been involved in a show garden of any kind. To be involved in the show days and handing leaflets out, has always stayed with me and inspired me to maybe one day design on that stage.

Q: Where do you gain inspiration for your garden designs?

A: All garden project inspiration comes from different avenues, the client's home decor, local environment around the garden, Social media, etc.

Q: Do you always tend to work with the same landscaper to install your gardens?

A: Yes, I like to work with the same contractors as we have built a trust and you know the level of work they produce, L&CO exteriors Ltd or Second Nature.

Q: Tulips or Grasses what are your favourites and why?

A: Grasses - Create movement and interest right into the winter with their seed heads.

Q: In one sentence how would you encapsulate the transformative power of gardens?

A: Gardens have the ability to unlock a whole new room/rooms to the clients house transforming the flow of the home.

Q: What advice would you offer to newly qualified designers?

A: Take every opportunity to learn from someone you can and get your hands dirty, try to get involved in as many parts of the process as you can.

Q: Which trade shows do you like to attend?

A: FutureScape

Q: Which areas of the country do you cover?

A: Essex

The Garden Of Two Tales Project type: Show Garden

This 42 square metre show garden designed by Daniel March manages to pack a lot into a small space. The overall ambience is of peace and serenity and it would be impossible to sit in this garden without feeling curious about the plants themselves, visiting wildlife and how that fascinating water feature actually works.

A worthy winner of a Gold Medal at RHS Hampton Court 2025. This garden certainly deserved to be awarded Best Garden Of Curiosity by the judges AND voted People’s Choice in it’s category.

Superb work from a young, innovative garden designer.
