Inspirational Garden In Hertfordshire

The clients had not touched the garden since purchasing the property some 10 years ago. The client works from home a lot and wanted a contemporary space that encouraged use by the whole family yet still allowed him to work without feeling totally removed, hence requesting a large garden-office. The client wanted seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living, incorporating formal terraces for entertaining, and softening the hard landscaping with textural planting.

The site's significant level changes required careful planning to ensure accessibility and flow between different areas of the garden. Achieving a balance between hard landscaping and planting to create a natural yet structured finish was also a key design consideration.

The seamless integration of the terraces with the architecture of the house is a real highlight, as is the planting design, which brings softness, movement, and biodiversity to the space.

This project is a strong example of how contemporary landscaping, paired with a thoughtful use of hard materials and naturalistic planting, can transform a family garden into an elegant and yet functional space. The use of natural stone against soft perennial planting really does create a timeless balance between structure and nature.
