Can a Shaded Space Feel More Mediterranean?

James' client had a real challenge for him. Her back garden is North West Facing and backs on to a public footpath and a school. It's also overlooked by neighbours.
The client loves being outdoors, particularly as she has been working from home during lockdown. Before the makeover, her patio was poorly placed to catch what little sun there was in the garden. The space was also heavily waterlogged for six months of the year and the lawn (as you can see from the pictures was just not thriving.
Inspired by trips to Morocco and the Mediterranean, James' client wanted to recreate that vibe in her own garden.

Challenge
Fixing The Drainage

James' biggest challenge on this project was the groundworks needed to fix that drainage issue. That was definitely a difficult one!

Creating a new fence on the party line with the neighbour was also a major part of the project. The rest - laying porcelain pavers, creating some raised beds and installing a new lawn was easy in comparison.

Solution
Using Cedar To Create A Holiday Vibe

The fencing in this garden is a major part of the visual effect and in this case, James has used cedar battens to give a contemporary holiday feel. The fence has been designed to draw the eye up, away from the ground and thus make the whole space feel larger and more airy.

Our Client Said...
Cedar was very thin on the ground due to lockdown material shortages but Richard went above and beyond and ensured the project didn't get delayed.
