Julia Langsman’s streamlined design for a modern garden with a swimming pool is simply sublime. It transforms a moderately sized garden (250m2) into an inviting family space for children and adults alike. A lovely balance between hard and soft landscaping and clever use of planting on the boundaries, means that this suburban space feels like a secluded country garden.

A Garden To Enhance Family Life

The clients wanted a sleek family garden to complement their new home extension, with spaces to entertain and a pool for their children to play in.

Challenge
Maximising Sunlight In A North Facing Garden

To allow best use of the available space, the pool was positioned at an angle. Which meant that the rest of the garden needed careful configuration to make it feel balanced. Privacy was also important so we installed pleached trees along the boundary. The clients also enjoy sitting in the sun, so a raised seating area helps to maximise evening light in a north-facing site.

Beautifully designed and carefully constructed, this garden is a credit to everyone involved in bringing it to life. The mix of contemporary landscaping materials and naturalistic planting work really well together to create a practical space with a luxurious aesthetic.

Anticipating a hot dry summer, Julia wisely included an automatic irrigation system in her design which has helped new plants to thrive whilst allowing the clients to enjoy their new garden without the worry of keeping plants alive.
