Holland Landscapes: Newbuild Back Garden

Project Type:
This rather uninspiring newbuild back garden has been completely transformed in a collaboration between Tapestry Design Studios and Holland Landscapers.  From bland to beautiful.  It's now a real lifestyle enhancing space that the householder can enjoy to the max.

Brief
Adding Interest To A Bland Garden

This north facing garden sits behind a lovely newbuild property in Rowhedge, Essex. It is fully enclosed by close board fencing and shaded by a large copse of trees. Typically for this part of the country - the soil is inclined towards drainage problems.
The client asked for more interest in the garden without creating lots of maintenace. They wanted to be able to entertain outdoors and to have a choice of seating areas so that they can make the most of the sun as it moves around the garden.
A small to medium sized lawn is essential for their dog and they specifically asked for a 'modern' look and feel.

Challenge
Budget Constraints

The build budget was quite tight for this project. But luckily the garden designer had taken this into consideration with her recommendation for layout, materials and planting.
Drainage is a bit of an issue - but the landscaping team are very familiar with the soil type in this area and know exactly how to manage it.

Solution
Great Layout With Plenty Of Interest

Katie from Tapestry Design Studios interpreted the brief really well, creating an attractive layout with planting pockets that will help to ease the drainage situation.
Two paved patios/seating areas have been created - one at either end of the garden. And the layout allows for benches to be added beside the gravel paths.
At the time of writing, planting is still a work in progress, but we look forward to sharing pictures with you as soon as it's done.
