Add a touch of silver with a Holm Oak Hedge

The wonderful thing about the Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) is not that its drought tolerant or that it copes well in coastal conditions. It's the wonderful silvery coloured underside to each leaf that makes the hedge look as though its shimmering in the breeze. As far as cultivation is concerned this Quercus ilex is remarkably easy. This specieis is hardy, resistant to most pests and diseases and actually enjoys being pruned. All of our instant hedges are grown entirely in the UK so they are accustomed to our weather patterns. Growing in the UK also means that we are avoiding bringing pests and diseases into the country. Because there are no boats or planes involved in their journey our instant hedges usually arrive on site within 24 hours of being harvested. They're fresh and less stressed and that really does reflect on the way they look and the way they perform.

What is an instant hedge?

An instant hedge is not a series of semi-mature potted plants. It's a genuine hedge. The plants have been grown close together and trained so that the branches intertwine to form a dense barrier. Only when it is looking as good as possible do we agree to sell to discerning buyers. Harvesting involves lifting sections of hedge (without damaging the roots) and loading them onto vehicles in the same order as they were lifted. When your instant hedge arrives you will simply plant it into pre-dug trenches, backfill with good quality soil and keep well watered until the plants have rooted into your garden. It's as easy as that!

Up to 65 linear metres of hedging can be delivered by artic, up to 35 linear metres by rigid lorry, up to 25 linear metres on a 7.5t lorry & up to 10m on a luton van.
